@SunGrantWelker: Mayor Elliott prioritizes new Lowell public safety complex over a new high school, calling it in “horrid condition.” #lowellpoli
Today’s Sun story about candidate forum: Mayor Rodney Elliott was the only one of 16 candidates at the debate to prioritize a new public-safety complex before a new high school, calling the police headquarters “in such horrid condition.”
Did the Mayor send a warning to Lowell parents and students that he will not be supporting a new LHS?
What will that do to the State funding and will it endanger getting state funding if the Mayor of the City is saying he see’s a higher priority?
Why now when Lowell is in the Feasibility Study stage would the Mayor say that a new High School is not the first priority but a new Public Safety Complex is?
Should students/parents/educators be concerned that because there is a high chance the State will recommend the High School stay where it is that the Mayor will now abandon the attempt to get State funding and instead concentrate on changing the talk for the need for a new public safety complex over the High school?
Was this a calculated attempt to get people riled and get the State Delegation or Congresswoman Tsongas to find money for a public safety complex?
Parents/ voters need to watch this one closely.
Where are the School Committee challengers? Why isn’t someone calling on the Mayor to get clarification or get him to publicly commit to support a new LHS where ever the State may suggest one?
