2, 279 students in the “Main” buildings at LHS and yet for some unknown reason this Supt. and School Committee do not want to move the 855 Freshman back into the main buildings!
WHY? If there is a space crunch has we have been told time and time again and there is supposedly a fiscal deficit, why isn’t the School Dept. doing what is financially best for the school district and moving the Freshman back into the main buildings?
The State numbers above show us how many students are at LHS and using their number the question is why hasn’t a School Committee member asked at a public meeting, why are we not utilizing this space, even before they looked at modular classrooms?
The solutions seems simple, move the Freshman and utilize the McDonough School for either the STEM Academy (include a few 5th grade classes) or use it for the 5th grade classes and combine it with some Special Ed classes.
When my son went to the Magnet school there they used the grass at Boarding House Park for recess..these are middle school kids they don’t need a swing set or playground. Even if you use it for a STEM School a playground isn’t required.
If you have space, which we know we have and you supposedly have a budget deficit, why would you even think of spending money to lease, rent, or even think of buying a building?
With a week to go before the Supt. is supposed to present his budget to the school committee I have a question?
