People like City Councilor Belanger criticized former Gov. Patrick for not supporting financially the Courthouse and other projects. I now understand the Gov’s thoughts..Lowell is self -serving I want everything I want and to hell with what we don’t want! Lowell and the elected officials are acting like spoiled kids whining and tripping over each other to “Defend the Taxpayers” !
The way this current City Manager and many members of this Lowell City Council are behaving if I were the Governor of Mass. I would tell this City to forget the following.
First this $60,000 agreement..you don’t want $60,000 okay, you get NOTHING!
Marty Meehan should close the Restaurant at the Inn and close the rooms open to the public and forget the the taxes the city takes in from meals and rooms. Lowell apparently doesn’t want your money.
The Governor should cancel the following two items:
New Lowell Judicial Center – Total Project Cost: $175 million
The Hamilton Canal is a prime piece of Real estate, why allow the State to build another structure that isn’t going to pay taxes. If UMASS LOWELL which is OWNED BY THE EXACT SAME GOVERNMENT is under constant attack why should the State build this Courthouse because in a few years Councilors will bitch about it!!
$15 million in state funding for the The Lord Overpass – Hell NO , we can’t expand Ulowell without the Manager and City Councilors throwing fits why should we make the Hamilton Canal access any easier.
Why should the State continue to assist Lowell when many of the elected officials are constantly whining about the expansion of ULowell.
A building that generates LESS THAN 1% OF THE ENTIRE CITY BUDGET suddenly has Councilors filing motions to see who can piss off the State more and for what? political play to the citizens / voters.
This is all POLITICAL GRANDSTANDING BS!
I would love to see this Council pass this motion and watch the Courts Laugh their ass off the first time a private developer sued the city:
C. Mercier – Req. City Council support a freeze on sale of all tax paying properties to UMass-Lowell until
a fair formula for payment in lieu of taxes is reached between the parties.
Then I want them to pass this and find out that YOU CAN’T TAX THE STATE!!
M. Kennedy – Req. City Mgr. and Assessors Office report to City Council regarding the potential for
taxing the commercial portion of the properties located at 50 Warren Street and 220 Pawtucket Street.
The City struts about all the Money the Delegation brings into the City – IT’S STATE MONEY !
UMASS LOWELL IS NOT A PRIVATE COLLEGE – IT IS NOT A NON-PROFIT it is a State controlled System just like the Courthouses.
PLEASE STOP THE ABSURD POLITICAL GRANDSTANDING!!!
