Should Elementary Students get 20 minutes a day for recess?

There are many issues that are of concern to parents besides the location of a High School. So from time to time I will be asking parents to share their thoughts on different issues that I see or hear about.

Presently there is a bill before the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Education to mandate time for recess for all elementary school students in the State

The recess bill would mandate 100 minutes of “supervised, safe and unstructured free-play recess each week meaning at least 20 consecutive minutes of free-play recess per day.”

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this proposal.
