I am PROUD that I have played a role in accomplishing the following in the Lowell School System:
Fiscal Accountability – Removed an Administration who ran up a $2,000,000 Food Service Debt with the State, created fiscal turmoil with the underfunded 2018/2019 budget and who Powers and Sullivan stated purposely hid bills due in 2018 to try to pay them in 2019
Relationship with the Supt. of Schools – This School Committee hired by a 7-0 vote a young, dynamic leader to bring Lowell Schools Forward and who is working with every corner of this city to create a Strategic Plan for the School District
Diversity – For the first time in my 57 years we have a Central Office that has diversity and 6 of 8 district & school leaders appointed in LPS since 7/1 represent diverse populations!
Equity – Supported the creation of The Renaissance Network: Supporting Chronically Under Performing Schools along with On Site-Based Budgeting And Fair Student Funding Program.
Advocacy – I have voted to not only support the Promise Act but voted to request a revision of the City’s Net School Spending Agreement, voted to request City join MSBA Accelerated Repair Program and advocated successfully to get repairs done in the city schools and to look at a return to the neighborhood school concept.
Inclusion -Encouraged and welcome more Parental and community involvement supporting Project Learn, The Citywide Parent Council and working with The Lowell Education Justice Alliance (LEJA) I was able to get passed a district wide recess policy. We’ve also expanded hours at the Family Resource center.
There is still much work to be done as we continue to Move Lowell Schools Forward!
Please consider me for 1 of your 6 votes for the Lowell School Committee on Tuesday November 5th.
